CHILD AND TEEN COUNSELING

Children and teens often show emotional stress differently than adults. Anxiety, depression, trauma, school stress, family changes, peer conflict, low confidence, behavior concerns, and overwhelming emotions may show up through withdrawal, irritability, acting out, trouble focusing, sleep changes, or difficulty expressing what they need.

At Valentine Counseling Center, we provide counseling for children and adolescents in a supportive, developmentally appropriate way. Our therapists help young clients build emotional awareness, coping skills, confidence, communication skills, and healthier ways of responding to stress. We also work closely with parents and caregivers when helpful to support progress outside of sessions.

Depending on the child or teen’s needs, therapy may include talk therapy, CBT-based skill building, play-based interventions, sandtray, expressive approaches, trauma-informed care, and family support.

We help children and teens with concerns such as:

  • Anxiety and excessive worry

  • Depression or low mood

  • Emotional outbursts or irritability

  • School stress or academic pressure

  • Peer conflict or social struggles

  • Low self-esteem or confidence

  • Trauma or difficult life experiences

  • Grief and loss

  • Attention or behavior concerns

  • Family conflict or adjustment to change

We offer in-person child and teen counseling in the San Luis Valley and secure telehealth therapy across Colorado when developmentally appropriate.

If you are ready to begin—or unsure where to start—we are happy to help connect your family with the right therapist.
